Different routes for studying Italian language and culture with us

Since 1978 the Centro Machiavelli Italian language school has been a reference point for those wanting to learn Italian in Italy, who want to use this language creatively and who are interested in the culture of this country, in the broadest sense.

We are known for the care and attention we pay to each and every student on our Italian language courses, satisfying their needs and expectations. The atmosphere, and not only in the classroom, is cheerful and informal, as is appropriate when communication is aimed at a specific purpose, like it is here at our centre.

The maximum number of 12 people per group-class allows students to quickly learn Italian as it allows for maximum participation of group members. Together with clear explanations and examples of language rules, we always provide time for communication activities and games.

Our students come from all over the world, this promotes communication always and only in Italian and requires the teachers to have a flexible and creative mindset in organising their lessons, using teaching materials and choosing activities.

Why study Italian in Florence

Take a walk along the banks of the Arno, pleasantly getting lost in the narrow medieval streets that sometimes open onto splendid squares, stop in front of the prestigious monuments: from the Duomo to the Church of Santa Croce; from Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza Signoria to Palazzo Pitti with the Boboli Gardens; from Ponte Vecchio to the Uffizi Gallery, from the Medici Chapels with the tomb of Lorenzo Il Magnifico to the Church of the Holy Spirit, and again, be amazed by Botticelli's Primavera, Michelangelo's David and the works of Titian and Fra Angelico, take in all the beauty of Florence, domineering in the simplicity of its architecture, its history, its charm, also enhanced by the flavours of one of the most famous cuisines in the world. That's why millions of people every year visit the Renaissance Capital.

You can also choose not to just limit yourself to scratching the surface, by leaving the beaten path of tourist traps and giving yourself time to take in all the rest: the social, economic and cultural liveliness of the neighbourhoods, with their markets, workshops, shops, restaurants and meeting points. You can discover another side to the city where the Italian spirit meets and mingles with the spirit of foreigners who have chosen to live here and contribute to making Florence a lively multi-cultural centre and an important hub for art, music, fashion and handicrafts.

Florence and Tuscany have an important tradition of welcoming young people and all those who want to get to know the Italian language and culture, with a course winding through the history of art, crafts, cooking, fashion and design programmes. All of Tuscany, already cradle of the Italian language and European knowledge, was and still is a meeting point and artistic and cultural production workshop; while never losing sight of its past (Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Machiavelli, Giotto, Leon Battista Alberti, Brunelleschi) it constantly gazes towards the future.
